Legal Assistants / Paralegals

Legal assistants, also known in some provinces as paralegals, work for lawyers in private law offices, corporate law offices, and government departments. In most offices, legal assistants perform routine duties under the direction of a lawyer which may include preparing letters and court documents, drafting contracts, conducting legal research, keeping files organized and up to date, handling basic book-keeping jobs, searching titles, and some may also act as receptionists.

In Saskatchewan, there is no formal training program to work as a legal assistant. Other provinces do offer diploma programs for paralegals; however, there is no guarantee that a Saskatchewan employer will recognize them. In Saskatchewan Legal assistants are provided with on-the-job training.
