Democracy and the Rule of Law ▸

To ensure that democracy works for all of us, we need to understand what democracy is, how democracy works, and how checks and balances keep the powerful in check. Democracy and the Rule of Law begins with the idea of democracy, then scaffolds students into understandings about liberal democratic systems of government and the rule of law.

Direct Democracy: Plebiscites and Referendums ▸

Direct democracy gives voters the power to decide what the law should be. Direct Democracy looks at the origins of direct democracy in ancient Greece, moves students through Saskatchewan’s history with and current legislation governing direct democracy, and closes with critical considerations of the merits and drawbacks of direct democratic rule.
